Providing clothing and hygiene help to school aged-children in Benton County.
Operation School Bell® has become the signature philanthropic program of Assistance League nationally as well as in Benton County. The program is designed to help students in need feel confident and ready to learn. Children receive new clothing: jeans or sweats, shirts, a warm jacket, socks, underwear, shoes, a personal grooming kit, and other essentials to support attendance and self-esteem. In 2009, the program expanded to include Hygiene Help, which provides paper products, feminine hygiene supplies, shampoo, and other basics to families in need. Recipients are referred by school personnel or partner agencies. More than 900 clothing orders were filled this past year, and over 18,000 since the program’s start in 1968—thanks to the support of volunteers, donors, and the greater community.
Currently, it costs $150 to clothe just one child.
